Volunteers Needed
Details: Hopedale Community Network has started Hopedale's first Winter Valet Service.   Volunteers can help 16 seniors at the Hopedale Housing Authority (HHA) by cleaning snow off of their cars, moving the cars out of their parking spots, and replacing the cars once the driveways have been plowed (HHA takes care of plowing). Early Childhood Playgroup

Details: Free play, snack, stories, songs, large motor activities and stickers. Donation, $1 optional to help defray the cost of snacks and supplies. Sweetheart Pancake Breakfast

Free Children's Art Class

Annual Chestnut Street Revue Fundraiser

Details: Presented by the First Universalist Society in Franklin. Local musicians showcase their talents for a good cause. EMCEE Jeremy Wardle. Rhode Island Flower Show
Date: Friday February 24th

Location: Rhode Island Convention Center, 1 Sabin St., Providence, RI
Details: Take the chill off this winter and breathe in the fresh air at the 19th Annual Rhode Island Flower Show. Reduced prices are available through the Mendon Senior Center. The theme of this imaginative exhibit is Simple Pleasures. Group rate tickets are $13 per person for parties of 15 or more. Regular ticket prices are: $16/seniors, $18/non-seniors, $7/children 6-12.
Several dining alternatives are available on site for lunch at indoor cafes and a cafeteria at an additional cost or pack a brown bag lunch. Carpooling is encouraged from the Mendon Senior Center. Van transportation is available on a first come basis for seniors without others means and persons with disabilities. All others will be considered on a space available basis. Let’s Laugh Today Meeting

Details: Beat the winter doldrums. Laughter yoga is a body-mind approach to health and wellness that any level of physical ability can do! When you pretend to laugh or act happy, your body produces the same happiness chemicals. Come and try this internationally acclaimed form of exercise that lifts your physical, emotional and mental health. There is a $5 donation per person with a maximum of $10 per family. Voluntary Simplicity Discussion Group

Details: Voluntary Simplicity is a six session discussion group. The members may continue to meet, if the participants wish, as a support group to help each other integrate simplicity into their lives.
Topics Covered:
1. The Meaning of Simplicity: The concept of simplicity, as a religious practice or philosophy of life, has a long history. How is simplicity connected to personal happiness and well-being?
2. Living More with Less: Accumulating material possessions is part of the American Dream. For some, the dream has become a nightmare. When do material possessions add meaning and when do they detract?
3. Making a Living: A growing number of people wish to resolve the cycle of making and spending so much money. They desire a simpler life. Why is that so difficult in our culture?

19th annual Hopedale Police and Firefighters Ball

Location: Portuguese Club, 119 Prospect Heights, Milford
Details: Tickets are on sale now for the 19th annual Hopedale Police and Firefighters Ball on March 3, 2012 at the Portuguese Club, Prospect Heights, Milford.
The ball is a non-profit, community event designed as a night of fun for all. The evening begins with a cocktail hour from 6 to 6:45 p.m. A brief opening ceremony will follow. Dinner is a five-course meal provided by Oliva's Catering of Milford.
The band for the evening is Steve Anthony and Persuasion playing dance music from the '50s to today. During the night there will be a live auction, raffles and a drawing for a door prize.
Tickets are $30 a person or a table of 10 can be reserved for $300. Tickets are available from any ball committee member. For ticket info call 508-634-2227.

Hopedale Public Library Digital Video Collection expanded to include over 400 new titles
Details: C/W MARS has added a Maximum Access subscription of A&E, Biography Channel, and History Channel videos to our digital collection.  The 412 “always available” titles include episodes from many popular series, among them Biography, American Justice, Haunted History, Criss Angel: Mindfreak, Food Tech, and more..there's something for everyone in this collection!
The new videos may  be accessed by going to the digital books website (http://digitalbooks.cwmars.org), checking them out like any other digital item, and downloading them to your computer.  They may be transferred to compatible portable devices (sorry, no Apple products) and, like all our digital items, check in automatically on their expiration date.  No late fees!  We will have access to this collection until December 30, 2012.  
 
Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum open to the public!
Date: Reopened Thursday January 19th
Details: Plan to visit the extraordinary new Renzo Piano-designed wing and the restored historic galleries, especially the renewed Tapestry Room.
Hopedale residents will be able to use the Library membership card, beginning January 19, to claim timed-entry regular admission tickets to see both the new wing and the historic building; and continue to pay just $5.00 for the opportunity to see one of the premier collections of art in the world.
